This past Saturday, our Taekwon-Do students had the unique opportunity to invite their parents to join them in a special training session, at the Taekwon-Do Center in Spreitenbach, giving them a firsthand experience of the discipline, skills, and fun that our young practitioners enjoy each week. The event was a tremendous success, with many parents eagerly taking on the challenge and overcoming their initial reservations.
The day kicked off with our Tigers Training, designed for our youngest members, aged 4-6. This program introduces them to general sports training with a martial arts twist, helping to lay the foundation for a lifetime of physical activity. It also aids in preparing them for school by fostering important skills such as listening, following instructions, and practicing classroom discipline.
Parents also participated in the Kids Taekwon-Do Classes, divided into Group A (ages 6-10) and Group B (ages 10-15). The session began with joint mobilization, followed by a comprehensive warm-up and stretching routine. Parents and children alike then engaged in a variety of coordination and fitness exercises, including animal movement skills and sliding mat drills. The room was filled with the sounds of exertion—panting, laughter, and the occasional groan—but the atmosphere remained light-hearted and full of smiles.
The parents were introduced to some of the fundamental techniques that our white belts must master before their first exam, such as the front forefist punch and the outer forearm block. After grasping the basic theory, they tried their hand at Saju Jirugi (Four Direction Punch), the first exercise every beginner learns. The session also included some sparring pad work, where parents had the chance to partner with their children. It was a true test of speed, power, reaction time, and coordination, and many parents were visibly impressed by their children's skills and strength.
Watching from the sidelines, Taekwon-Do might seem like an easy activity, but the parents quickly realized just how challenging and demanding it truly is. However, the sight of red, sweaty faces paired with broad smiles was evidence enough that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Several parents even mentioned how much they appreciated the opportunity and expressed interest in more parent-child training sessions in the future—a request we’re excited to consider.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the parents who participated, and to the children for their patience and understanding. A special thanks as well to Mr. Clément Vitrac and Miss Melanie Muntwyler for their invaluable assistance with the training.
We’ll keep you posted on the next parent-child training event!
